The Fall of Adam and Eve

I want to give my readers a feel of what the Garden of Eden might have been like before Adam and Eve sinned and were banished. This heart warming video on Utube shown below demonstrates that it would have been impossible for them, and particularly for Adam, to accomplish all their tasks and name all the animals in only 24 hours of daylight on day six. Imagine yourself in their shoes getting to know all the animals and the environment around them. In the 15 articles on the six 'days' of creation I detail why the whole of the Bible, and even Genesis Chapters 1 and 2, repudiate a 24-hour day concept for the six 'days' of creation. Remember that the word 'Yom' for day in Hebrew is used to cover four different periods of time in the first two chapters of Genesis alone. The phrase 'morning and evening' were used figuratively by the Hebrews to denote a span of time.

Watch this video of a gorilla in the wild meeting the wife of the film producer for the very first time. Would you have been able to name all the animals in one late afternoon??? If this is how the gorilla felt towards this lady how would have Adam spent his time with her? Even before Adam was put into a deep sleep for God to create woman, how would he have interacted with all the animals, fish and butterflies for instance, before actually naming them? Time, time and time was taken for all that.

A word concerning the Fall of Adam and Eve from God's perfect will; Before their disobedience they had the opportunity to live a blissful life in their biological bodies forever. They essentially already had eternal existence, there and then, but as is also true in the manufacturing industry, every product has to be certified through quality control -  testing of the heart in the case of Adam and Eve! Apart from that missing element, their faces, flesh and DNA were perfect. Michael Angelo would have loved Adam and Eve pose in his studio.

They were not corrupted by blemishes, mutations or physical disfigurement as we are today. But the moment they disobeyed they entered the realm of time and chance, disease and violence, and the clock determining their life span began to tick at a biological age of 0, although they had the appearance of being in their mid-twenties I would presume. They suddenly began to age like we all do from the moment we are born. They were now tainted with sin and were distanced from their former close relationship with God. Part of God's curse upon His creation was the introduction of ageing.

Their age was counted from the moment they entered into sin and then they lived the rest of their lives in survival mode. All the previous years of their existence in an 'eternal state' suddenly counted for nothing. They celebrated their first biological birthday as sinful adults, yet redeemed by God who shed blood on their behalf by providing them with a covering of skins. (Genesis 3:21). This is the reason why the Bible abhors public nakedness. It is a moral teaching aid  emphasizing that we all need a spiritual covering, provided through the blood of Christ. God has nothing against nakedness in itself; He is concerned with how we abuse it to bring forth wanton lust and deliberately dishonor one another. Figuratively speaking, His real concern is and always will be, 'Why are you naked? What is missing in your life? Why aren't you clothed with the righteousness of Jesus Christ'?

The patriarchs rejoiced when children were born, so that with their help they could rest from their hard labor in old age, 'And Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years and fathered a son. And he called his name Noah, saying, This one shall comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands because of the ground which Jehovah has cursed. And after he fathered Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years. And he fathered sons and daughters'. (Genesis 5:28-30). It will become noteworthy later on that Noah's father lived for 777 years, the sevens sign-posting that Noah's flood is significant in relation to end-time events as described in the book of sevens - The book of Revelation. Bible numerology is important for deciphering the hidden meanings behind the Scriptures. Biblical numbers are like the folder tags in a filing cabinet for ready reference.

In Genesis Chapter 5:4, we note that over Adam's 930 years of labor he had many sons and daughters, as also did his growing children. Some of them escaped from their parents' well intended control and set up their own family tribes and cultures. Thus, over the long time that Cain lived in his wanderings away from the presence of God, he eventually found others like himself and 'married' one of his sisters. Over time, siblings who remained under the care of Adam and Eve, came to be called 'sons of God' (because they were righteous like Abel). The line of rebellious and war-like siblings became known as the sons of men. Trouble began to brew even in the godly line, when the sons of God married the carefree daughters of men whom they found more enticing and 'dolled up'. Isn't that true even today?

One thousand five hundred years after the Fall only Noah was found righteous. The rest succumbed to wickedness and violence. This is why the New Testament recommend that couples not marry when they are unequally yoked.

'Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship is there between light and darkness'? (2Corinthians 6:14, NRSV)

GOD DID NOT LEAVE MANKIND DESTITUTE

God instituted animal sacrifice to partially shield them from the evil one. God would still communicate with Adam and Eve directly at crucial times. We see this in God's conversation with Cain who had just murdered his brother Abel. Cain was overcome with jealousy because God found Abel's offering of an unblemished lamb from his flock acceptable. (Genesis 4:2). The lamb foreshadowed the coming of Christ. Cain was the first in the line of evil men who struck a deliberate blow against the will of God. Cain's offering was the bloodless works of his hard labour as a gardener. His works by the sweat of his brow was unacceptable as an offering which has remained a principle in God to this day - even as Martin Luther reminded the church of his day that we are saved by grace, not by works!

At the Fall, God did not have to resort to Plan B. He always knew that mankind would fall short of what He had in mind,

'And all dwelling on the earth will worship it, those whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain, from the foundation of the world'. (Revelation 13:8)

'Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, silver or gold, from your vain manner of life handed down from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot; indeed having been foreknown before the foundation of the world, but revealed in the last times for you', (1Peter 1:18-20)
