. A Mother’s Love
“This is My Easter gift son”, came a voice to my heart on Easter Tuesday morning in 2025. I had gotten up to resume writing this article given to me during the night of Easter Monday. Then He added, “It’s in commemoration of your new birth” (on Easter Monday morning, 1976).
My heavenly Father always gives me a special present at Easter rr on my birthdays. In 2025 He saved yhe life of my wife gloria from being killed by a deadly Eastern Brown snake. We therefore celebrate both of our lives on the 5th November. See the downloadable free book pn the Home Page. It is copyright free.
A few years ago, the Lord dictated an instant poem after I had the unique privilege of looking down from the cross through the eyes of Jesus. He was trying to find His mother through bloodied and swollen eyes. His face had been disfigured beyond recognition (Isaiah 50:6, Chapter 53). “Many people were shocked when they saw him; he was so disfigured that he hardly looked human” (Isaiah 52:14, GNB).
As I mentioned in previous articles our God is a God of repeating patterns. They generally repeat themselves on the Earth in threes finishing in a final crescendo of glory. For instance, from the Garden of Eden to the Tabernacle of Moses to the Temple of Solomon. Or, from Passover, to Pentecost and finally to Tabernacles, the third and last Feast. It was only during Tabernacles that all Israel was forgiven their sins of ignorance, once annually. Every fiftieth occasion in the Year of Jubilee the people who had sold themselves into slavery to rich neighbours were released together with the titles to their land. That privilege was never extended to non-Israelites unless they first converted. More on that in later articles. In this article I shall discuss a repeating pattern of a mother’s love for her baby in Scripture.
Woe to the one who comes between a bear and her cubs. Almost the entire animal kingdom shows this trait. Two she-bears killing forty-two nasty boys is, no doubt, an example of that (2Kings 2:24).
We had an unfortunate incident at home. We had a tortoise shell coloured cat who was resting in the shade in our front yard with four of her kittens. A mentally affected neighbour walked past holding a puppy in her hand. Our cat attacked her from ten yards away, clambered up into her arms and bit the puppy. Although we cared for her, disinfected her scratches and offered to take her to the doctor she insisted on going home. We don’t know what she told her mother, but the mother turned up with a lynch mob behind her abusing my distraught wife who opened the door. They threatened to throw poison into our yard and were in no mood to listen how we attempted to care for her daughter.
Birds deliberately attract predators to lure them away from the nest or raise their heads in the nest preventing large hail stones from hitting their young. Examples are endless. Just about anybody admiring nature these days carries a video camera. Some YouTube films are amazing: An elephant with tears in her eyes attracting attention on the road to motivate people to follow her through thick jungle to a well where her baby is about to drown or the tiger that brought her cubs to a village knowing that someone would help. Other ferocious animals remember those who years earlier protected them from danger. It’s almost as though God is giving us encouraging signs that all will be different in the kingdom of heaven. Observing animals protecting their cubs are heart rending.
My wife Gloria is a great believer in the Old Testament and often quotes from Genesis 1:26-28, “And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the heavens, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over all the creepers creeping on the earth. And God created man in His image; in the image of God He created him. He created them male and female. And God blessed them. And God said to them, Be fruitful, and multiply and fill the earth, and subdue it. And have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the heavens, and all animals that move upon the earth”. She has spoken to a tree to stop shedding its leaves and to a plot of ground to stop visitors from coming onto the property. They obeyed her. Their cars would break down beyond the gate. They soon stopped coming. There is some intrinsic property that they respond to a word from the Holy Spirit. After all, they were created by a spoken word, so why shouldn’t they?
Her other favourite scripture is Romans 8:19-22, “For the earnest expectation of the creation waits for the manifestation of the sons of God. For the creation was not willingly subjected to vanity, but because of Him who subjected it on hope that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. And we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now”
I was recently downhearted and brought out some belongings that belonged to my mother and my former wife. My mother had been a German Lutheran pastor’s daughter. She had the knack of making Christmas Eve magical even during the war. Mother would gather silver streamers, dropped by the Allies to fool radar, and put real candles on the Christmas tree. The sights and sounds were overwhelming. Imagine a darkened room with the light reflected off the streamers and the beautiful aroma of spruce. She would even put a match to a piece of fir. In the darkness we sang Christmas carols waiting the for the chance to take fudge sweets wrapped in tufted silver paper off the tree. She did this in Australia as well, experiences one can never forget. Her love and that of my former wife brought tears to my eyes at the age of 85.
Only a week earlier my second wife recalled the death of her husband. His teenage daughter ministered to his needs, but he thought it was his mother. Ruth had to shake him, “It’s me Ruth. I am not your mother”. I have heard many such stories of old people desiring again the comfort of their mothers. Some men marry ladies that resemble their mothers in some way.
Jesus was no different. His thoughts returned to His mother who had fondled and cared for Him with so much warmth. He yearned for her love again. Blinking repeatedly, He finally found her standing close to John. This poem expresses the exact thoughts Yeshua had on his mind. Yeshua stammered weakly but loud enough for them to hear.
The Spirit speaks, I Ruah Elohim speak
Another gasp, I faint, I dare not
I have something to say, I cannot
My mouth is dry, my tongue, it will not move
I thirst, I cannot see
Ah yes, there she is
I gasp, I shudder
Another breath, I cannot feel
There she is, I see her now
Mary, Mary, I must speak
She is all alone
Mary, John, I stammer forth
Ah its done, I feel relief
My love for her is beyond belief
What had I done?
It had to be
The Father is beating me
“Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand” (Isaiah 53:10, ESV).
The depth of a mother’s love was also demonstrated the day when God revealed the wisdom He had granted King Solomon, “Then there came two women, harlots, to the king, and stood before him. And the one woman said, O my lord, this woman and I live in one house. And I bore a child with her in the house. And it happened the third day after I gave birth, this woman bore a child also. And we were together; there was no stranger with us in the house, except the two of us in the hours .And this woman's child died in the night, because she laid on it. And she arose at midnight and took my son from beside me, while your servant was sleeping, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. When I arose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead. And when I had looked at it in the morning, behold, it was not my son whom I bore. And the other woman said, No, but the living is my son, and the dead is your son. And this one said, No, but the dead is your son, and the living is my son. So they spoke before the king. And the king said, The one says, This is my son who lives, and your son is the dead. And the other says, No, but your son is the dead, and my son is the living. And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one and half to the other. And the woman whose son was the living child said to the king, for her womb yearned over her son. And she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no way kill it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor yours; divide it! And the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no way kill it. She is the mother of it. And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged. And they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to do judgment” 1Kings 3:16-28).
It astounds me how protective some mothers are of their adult children even if found guilty of a callous murder. No thought given to the victim, only compassion for her son. This is also true in the animal kingdom. Some animals eat their young just because they are food while others eat them when resources become limiting. Lionesses protect newborn cubs from the alpha male who may eat them. Domestic cats and dogs, though they safeguard their litter ferociously, are capable of the same. There are some mothers nobody would want to have. I recall years ago a newspaper report about a boy given $250,000 compensation to last for the rest of his life. He became a quadriplegic because of a car crash. His mother spent it all on poker machines!
The Devil knows the scriptures, but he doesn’t quite understand them. He always misses the mark. There are three times in Scripture, concerning three major deliverances to the world, when the Devil becomes aware of a life-threating danger. He doesn’t have a name, but he knows the approximate time and that it will be a male. The three instances are the birth of Moses, the birth of Jesus and the birth of the manchild (a multiple) to the bride of Christ. Although each appearance of a deliverer has been crucial to the plan of God the last will spell eternal disaster - being cast out of heavenly places and eventually in the Lake of Fire.
In the case of Moses Pharaoh commanded the Hebrew midwives in Goshen that all males be drowned at birth, “And a man went from the house of Levi and took a daughter of Levi as his wife. And the woman conceived and bore a son. And when she saw him, that he was beautiful, she hid him three months. But when she could no longer hide him, she took an ark of papyrus for him, and daubed it with bitumen and with pitch, and put the child in it. And she laid it in the reeds by the river's edge. And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him. And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river. And her maidens walked along by the riverside. And when she saw the ark among the reeds, she sent her slave-girl to bring it. And she opened it, and she saw the child. And behold, a boy wept. And she had pity on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews' sons. And his sister said to Pharaoh's daughter, Shall I go and call a woman, a nurse of the Hebrew women for you, that she may nurse the child for you? And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Go. And the girl went and called the child's mother. And Pharaoh's daughter said to her, Take this child away and nurse it for me, and I will give your wages. And the woman took the child and nursed it. And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses. And she said, Because I took him out of the water” (Exodus 1:1-10).
When the wise men came from the East to Jerusalem King Herod was incensed that they were looking for someone born to be king. He deceived the visitors to reveal the name should they find him so that He could kill him. The Lord warned the wise men not to go back to Herod. During the night an angel spoke to Joseph, head of his family, to take the child to Egypt out of Herod’s reach. Herod fumed. He knew that the baby had been born before the wise men began their trip. He also had reports that their caravan headed towards Bethlehem. When Herod realized that the visitors had deceived him, he sent troops to Bethlehem to kill all male children under the age of 2.
“’Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying, "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not"’ (Matthew 2:17-18).
This needs some explanation. Why was Rachel, wife of Jacob and mother of Joseph and Benjamin, weeping in Bethlehem? Rachel was buried in a tomb near Bethlehem on a ‘high place’ (Genesis 35:19). That is the meaning of Ramah. Jews are expected to realize instances of prophetic use of language. She is weeping, collectively with all the mothers, over the loss of her male descendants from the grave.
The third instance is in Revelation Chapter 12, of course. It describes the bride of Christ pregnant and filled with pain because of her (our) love for Christ. In Revelation 12 she is about to give life to the male child (manchild). The male child is the fruit of her painful labour, the greatest harvest of souls at the end of time. Why a male? To emphatically symbolize that these ones collectively have warring and leadership capacities in spiritual warfare.
“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come! And let the one hearing say, Come! And let the one who is thirsty come. And he willing, let him take of the Water of Life freely” (Reveleation 22:17).
The dragon can’t wait to devour it at birth. But the Devil thinks it’s one child as it was on two previous occasions, not a multiple even as the bride is not a particular woman but a multiple. The Devil gets confused and can’t fulfil his plan. Neither the bride nor the manchild have it within them to empty heavenly places from all demonic forces, but Michael the Archangel of war has. After all, the holy angels outnumber the fallen ones two to one. God tells Michael that this is the time we have been waiting for. Get up and do the job.
“And there was war in Heaven. Michael and his angels warring against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels warred, but did not prevail. Nor was place found for them in Heaven anymore. And the great dragon was cast out, the old serpent called Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world. He was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a great voice saying in Heaven, Now has come the salvation and power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Christ. For the accuser of our brothers is cast down, who accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb, and because of the word of their testimony. And they did not love their soul until death” (Revelation 12:7-11).
