The Creation. Truthing in Love

The Lord saved me in Acts Chapter 2 fashion whilst in bed at about 2 am on Easter Sunday in 1976. My water baptism about two months later was peaceful. An angel standing nearby in a glistening coat said that a white dove had come down. I knew nothing about water baptism except the account I had read about John baptising Jesus. I was delighted and accepted it by faith (www.creation6000.com).

That fateful night we had stayed up late talking with my Irish best friend Joe who had the gift of the gab. He frightened me with stories about ghosts. They got worse as the night went on. To laugh it off, I commented nervously close to midnight, “Joe, your house looks old enough to have ghosts in it”. Instead of breaking into laughter he and his wife suddenly became dead serious.  Yes, he said. Our doors open unaided, and we sense an invisible visitor coming in. He watches us washing dishes. We are accustomed to it. We welcome his presence. It makes us feel good.

My face must have turned grey. I sank deeper into the armchair.  The hair on the back of my neck bristled. I was mortified. After a deadly silence everybody got up and disappeared through various doorways to the bathrooms. I was left alone in the old Victorian home.  I finally mustered courage and entered the wood panelled corridor. I feared meeting up with one of those things around the next corner.  As I walked along I sensed hands reaching out from the white wall beckoning me, “Join us, join us”. I wanted to scream. I knew they were voices from hell. I had experienced spiritual encounters before.

Within a split second I remembered an editorial article about Jesus in the Melbourne Age newspaper– the only good ghost I could think of. I screamed out silently, “Help me Jesus. Help me Jesus”. The rest of my story is on my website www.creation6000.com. I became a zealous creationist. Over the years I thankfully began to drift more and more towards the word of God away from creationism.

Being a young scientist of some standing I told my class of 500 first year students in Australia that we are going to skip Chapters 3-5 in our textbook.  I simply told them that I am going to teach biological facts not wishful theories on origins.  My public comment stirred up a hornet’s nest in our School of Biological Sciences. I had previously written a letter to the Editor of the Age that ‘evolution theory is a cancer’. It earned me the wrath of academics, schoolteachers and parents throughout Australia.

The Head of Department called me to his office and read out to a typical letter, one of many, from the public. It went something like this, “I am withdrawing my enrolment at….university. I don’t want a Mickey Mouse degree tainted with the likes of Dr. Pallaghy”. He was fuming. He had taken pains over the years to appoint only the best staff from overseas. I was shown later the large number of world-famous scientists had been turned away. My previous post was at Michigan State University. To my surprise the Russian Director of the Research Laboratory had written an outstanding letter of reference. The German Head of Department where I worked was amazed that I solved a scientific problem he had been struggling with over the years. I was no great find or goose about to lay golden eggs, but the Lord lifted me up in Australia through this man. What the Lord did know beforehand is that once I became converted I would be prepared to risk everything, even my young family.

The Melbourne Age was the most credible Australian newspaper in those days. The editor was extremely fair. Three times they published a quarter page letter of mine. The editorials were on page 4. The miracle was that the university was also sending equally long letters to distance themselves from me, but the editor always held them back in pairs. The editor must have been a Christian. In every case, my letter miraculously answered all the issues raised by the University President (Vice-Chancellor), the Dean of the School of Biological Sciences and the Head of my Department.

I was featured in the paper for two weeks accompanied by witty cartoons, a mix of both good and bad. I actually enjoyed them. Sir David Frost of the BBC, renowned for extracting the first confession from President Nixon about the Watergate scandal, and seconded to Australian TV for 6 months, interviewed me and an evolutionist for 20 minutes on TV. Two documentaries with the camera crews following me around campus were made. They were aired on national TV.

Jennifer Byrne’s crew had a tasty meal at our home. It was Czech style prepared by my first wife Milena. A few days later she received a gigantic bouquet as thanks. The outcome of all this publicity was sweet and sour. Sweet because the Lord held the nation at ransom. It was forced to hear, see and read that a senior member of academic staff in a biological department literally believed the Bible. Sour because my children and wife, a teacher, were subsequently harassed at work. My son, a brilliant cosmo-physicist now specializing in AI, changed his name to apply for one of his early jobs.

My head of department went berserk. “I will fight you and your God to the death” he shouted at the top of his voice down the corridor one day for everyone to hear. His face would go a bright red each time. Within two years the Lord granted him and the Dean of the School of Biological Sciences their wish. He died in bed while the Dean died in Cambodia at the airport during an official visit with cartons of science books I had donated to Cambodia. Two of my greatest antagonists within our family recently passed away too, for no clear medical reasons.

At the university Vice-Chancellor’s request, a supposed Anglican, the Dean and Head of Department spent two hours with  me asking for my resignation. I refused to resign. On the way down the staircase the Dean, a usually witty fellow at Board meetings said, “Charles, I don’t care what you decide to do but be prepared to take a lot of flak from now on.”

I had two semi-friends as colleagues. They confided that at the last meeting of staff with the legal team they spoke up on my behalf. The stood up and said, “We don’t believe what Charles says, but we believe that he has every right to speak his mind on campus”. That shut them up. Forty years later, a Christian headmaster told me that he and his wife heard their neighbour, the Head of Chemistry say “We decided to destroy all of Dr. Pallaghy’s experiments.  He will want to get away”. I wondered for years why my own experiments rarely worked, only those of my PhD students. Even my scanning electron microscope got wrecked with water coming through the ceiling. The success of my PhD students counted towards my credit, which kept my job thank God. Hank and Val DV didn’t know me then but began to regularly support me in prayer.

The Holy Spirit drove me to testify in churches including to a huge crowd of students about to enter university.at the iconic Sydney Opera House. As I grew bolder, I decided one day to deliberately trap my usually large crowd of attendees at a scientific conference in Sydney.  I demonstrated beyond any reasonable doubt that the complex molecular structure of ATP, the high energy molecule in living systems without which we would instantly die, had to be designed by a creator – the God of the Bible. The hall was still. One could have heard a needle drop. The audience was aghast. I kept going looking at the back of the hall ignoring their faces. Sir Rutherford Robertson, Bob my friend and one of my former PhD examiners, came afterwards shaking his head. “Oh, Charles, what have you done?” Neither he nor any of my other colleagues spoke to me ever again. I discovered much later that Sir Robertson was the son of a Baptist minister. How tragic.

As a visiting scientist I performed well in the 1970s at the Atomic Energy Commission Plant Research Centre at Michigan State University, East Lansing.  As already mentioned my own boss was a rigid Prussian from Germany. I was irritated during my first week. I would neatly put out all the tools required to run the complex spectrometers the next day only to find them placed back into toolboxes.  Searching for them wasted a lot of my time. I got my revenge a few months later when the red-faced female technicians discovered that I could speak German.

Fortunately, I met a few genuine Americans. One of the PhD students would turn up wearing a dark brown wide-brimmed cowboy hat.  With his moustache and riding boots he looked the spitting image of Whyatt Earp. It was a joy to speak with him. The police regularly tailed his car until he eventually made a mistake. Another PhD student was even friendlier. He was a part-time ski instructor in Colorado. He couldn’t stop laughing how generous the tips from old ladies were – up to $800 each. In the 70’s, believe it or not. David took our family canoeing underneath the autumn trees in Michigan. I would love to do it again.

It's through my work and knowledge of the intricate biochemical processes in living cells that I began to believe in a creator in 1976.  I didn’t know which God until my unexpected conversion. Hoping to renew friendship with Australia’s creationist group I very recently called up a former acquaintance, the CEO of “Answers in Genesis” with the suggestion that we collaborate to write a book together.

Dr Don Batten accepted the call. As mutually respectful brothers in Christ and as a former contributor to Creation ExNihilo, Dr Batten did not hang up on me despite my long line of uncomfortable questions. He remained calm and held on for about 20 minutes.

Towards the end of our conversation, he voluntarily, though reluctantly, admitted that the early church Fathers believed that the word ‘day’ (Yom in Hebrew) in the creation account refers to a prophetic 1000-year period (2Peter 3:8 and Psalm 90:4). His shocking admission contradicts a major policy in creationist Constitutions; Belief in literal 24-hour solar days for the creation from which they refuse to budge.

I and some others holding PhDs refused to sign their Constitution for which we were expelled as heretics in the 1980’s. We were scolded over the phone. Calls went around Australia so that neither Dr Jeff Hammond, the ‘Billy Graham’ of Indonesia nor I, received any more speaking engagements, not even at my own church. The organization in Sunnybank, Queensland, agreed to sell our book, The Bible and Science. However, they placed a loose insert in every copy denouncing us as heretics. When confronted a year later they apologized. After our crusade in Indonesia our book became a best seller but only in Indonesia.

I had written them years earlier that the word Yom has the same indefinite usage in the Hebrew Bible as we use in English, as for example ‘in the days of horseless carriages’ or ‘in her day’. The first clear example of its indefinite use is in Genesis 2:4, “These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens”. According to context, Yom cannot mean anything else than ‘six days’. In the beginning the earth began as a ball of water suspended in nothingness. The Earth’s place in the Cosmos, at the end of one of the arms of the Milky Way galaxy, was established on Day 4. The “heavens”, the Sun, Moon and stars were only created on Day 4.

Moreover, I also let them know that ‘evening’ and ‘morning’ are used in Hebrew poetry as word pairs, even in other books of the Bible.  They indicate the beginning and end of a period of time or era (E Landau, www.jewishbible.org). However, selected theologians continued to publish in their popular journals insisting that the days were 24-hour solar days.

Should the truth offend some, any 24-hour creationists and their adherents in particular, I remind my readers that the prophet Jeremiah and Jesus had to face the same opposition in their day, “…. for you shall go to all that I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces; for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah. And Jehovah put forth His hand, and touched my mouth. And Jehovah said to me, Behold, I have put My Words in your mouth. Behold! I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant” (Jeremiah 1:7-10).

The Lord gave me an important vision some years ago that kept me going. In the vision I was a visiting senior officer inspecting an army camp. The troops lined up as for morning roll call. I moved down the line inspecting them, talking to some of them as royalty would. A private further down the line caught my eye. He was looking at me intently. He seemed familiar but I couldn’t work out who he was.

When I reached him, he was no longer in his uniform but in a white flowing robe like an ancient  Roman senator. As I recalled later, I think that he even had a garland on his head. His face shone like that of a triumphant ancient Greek athlete, as though rubbed with oil. I stared at him but couldn’t speak. Suddenly he stated with an indifferent look on his face, “I am the Almighty God”. Delighted, I bent forward to embrace him but immediately recoiled. His body was cold and felt like a granite statue. He looked at me intently. He didn’t smile. He didn’t say another word.

I got the message. The Lord is no pal, or pushover or sugar daddy. He is in command, not I. This was the one and only time that the Lord kept me at a distance.

My experience reminds me of the time when Joshua was preparing himself for battle against Jericho. A foreboding man turned up with a sword. Joshua felt uneasy and challenged him, “….Are You for us, or for our foes? And He said, no, but I have come as the Commander of the army of Jehovah. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth. And he worshiped and said to Him, What does my Lord say to His servant? And the Commander of Jehovah's army said to Joshua, Take your shoe off your foot, for the place on which you stand is holy. And Joshua did so” (Joshua 5:13-15).

My second wife, Gloria, an extremely devoted ordained minister of the AOG from Papua New Guinea said at our home communion recently, “How can you talk to God as though he was just your friend next door? Button up your shirt (It was a hot day). Pray respectfully. You wouldn’t dare to talk to your Prime Minister like that.”  Gloria meant to criticize but inwardly I rejoiced. Nevertheless, I am obeying her wishes for her sake.

The Lord, though He is my King and God, and shed His blood for me, always speaks to me as any friend would, addressing me as “Charles”. The Lord treated Moses the same way, “And Jehovah would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” (Exodus 33:11). I am elated that she recognized the tone of my voice as though the Lord was an intimate friend. It has always been natural for me to pray like that – just talking to Him as though He is there. I want to keep it that way.

I am always thankful in my heart even if I eat and miss saying grace. We used to say grace in parrot-like fashion with my former wife, a Lutheran who is currently rejoicing in heaven. Bless her soul! I remember the Scottish Rev Peter Marshall, former chaplain to the Senate in Washington DC during WWII, saying to his wife at breakfast, “I thanked the Boss for the breakfast you just cooked even though he knows I don’t like it.” Let’s be honest with the Lord. He knows us inside out.

The Lord gives me new revelations day after day. As I was writing this passage a sense of sorrow and compassion overwhelmed me. I suddenly registered why some are bitter towards me. Jealous false shepherds abused them. They are tragic victims. In their bitterness they have been lashing out against God and me blaming both of us. I was in tears. Then I realised that this repentance wasn’t my doing. I did not suddenly repent of my own accord. The Lord was changing my evil heart which sought some kind of penalty on their day of judgment for the way they treated me. If the Lord can change my heart, He can change their hearts as well. I took comfort in that. My peace returned to me.

My point is that God is LOVE. His love is unfathomable. It is impossible to comprehend how low He stoops to those He loves. I am just glad that He is love and that He treats me as my own father did. No fake formalities. My father accepted me at mealtimes whether I turned up in pyjamas or grubby in sport gear, as long as I washed my hands. The Lord and I are truly friends. Having said that He made it clear that the church at large needs to change.  He is not happy.

Churches cannot continue to entertain or baby-sit. People must not take communion habitually just because it’s what their church does on Sundays. They have been drinking condemnation to themselves (1Corinthians 11:27-29), especially if some hate socialising in church because it’s a waste of time. It’s not a waste of time. The Lord sees to it, whether we talk about sport or a scripture. That’s why the nations are in trouble. Lack of love, policies based on greed by vote-seeking power-hungry personalities. We deserve them. We voted them in. In the church the Lord expects us to repent from the way many leaders have drifted away from Apostolic doctrine. We are in the end times. The most holy “I AM” is confronting His church.

Israel of old had similar blind spots. The Hebrew word for God used in Genesis, Chapters 1 and 2, is ‘Elohim’ which is God in plural. They ought to have known from the beginning that the God of creation is a multiple. Moses, the author of the first chapters of Genesis, would have known that. When he declared, “Hear, Oh Israel, the Lord our God is one God” he declared the Trinity. Indeed, the prophet Agur asked, “Who has gone up to Heaven and has come down? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in His garments? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name? Surely you know. Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His Words, lest He reprove you and you be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:4-6).

Reprobate Hebrews twisted the truth early in their history hammering as absolute truth the notion of a unitarian God into their traditions. Jesus said that “your traditions have made the Word of God of no effect” (Mark 7:13). Unfortunately, that is still true amongst Jews (mostly Judah, Benjamin and Levi) and Israelites (those belonging to the ten tribes of the diaspora).

I am a Levite but was brought up as a Gentile Christian in the charismatic movement for 45 years until I had a DNA test. The Lord spoke to me confirming the tribe I am from. I therefore love both Gentile Christians and Messianic Jews. Both sides hold wonderful truths, but both sides also need to repent as I pointed out with my wife Gloria in our book Merging Jew and Gentile for Perfection (Bookside Press, Toronto, 2024). We were married in 2024 as widower and widow under a Chuppah in Jewish fashion in a wonderful Baptist Church who accommodated our wishes.

God created a blind spot in the human eye for a reason. All of us are fallible. There is no condemnation or shame for our past mistakes. The Lord expects all to bend the knee. I cannot boast about my unique grace. He has granted me a deep understanding of His Word.  All of it is the Lord’s doing.  All my articles contain revelations I have never heard preached before verbally, in print or on TV.

The Lord has given a retired Australian academic, of German-Hungarian descent, with a black wife, an amazing privilege. Perhaps this is why He has chosen me/us. I was a biophysicist and genetic engineer. I studied the Logos under the best teachers in Australia. Understandably, I was hated by the Australian universities in the years 1976-2004, yet they praised me wonderfully at my retirement dinner which I attended with shaking knees. The Lord saved my life many times since birth. He saved my job miraculously, repeatedly against all odds. God had His reasons. My website, www.creation6000.com, contains some of my hair-raising experiences during WWII and in Australia at university. Praise Yeshua, Jesus Christ our Lord!

Synagogues have banned Isaiah Chapter 53 because it leaves no shadow of a doubt that Yeshua was/is the Messiah. Sincere Rabbis have chosen to believe and have converted to Christianity.

Anyone sincerely reading the Torah, or Tanakh, of the Old Testament would immediately realize that the Lord, JHVH the I AM, is a multiple but one God in intent and purpose, the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit (John Chapter 1).  Of the four gospels only John’s concentrates on the divinity of Jesus.

Jesus and the apostle Peter also proved from Scripture that God has a son (Matthew 22:44; Mark 12:36; Luke 20:42; Acts 2:34). Quoting from Psalm 110:1, Jesus in Matthew 22:44 made them confess the fact, “’While the Pharisees were gathered, Jesus asked them saying, What do you think of Christ? Whose son is he? They say to Him, David's. He said to them, How then does David by the Spirit call him Lord, saying, "the LORD said to my Lord, Sit on My right until I make Your enemies Your footstool for Your feet?" If David then calls Him Lord, how is He his son? And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor did anyone dare from that day to question Him any more”’.

Messianic Jews trapped orthodox  and secular Jews into the same confession on YouTube when they asked them to read Isaiah Chapter 53 on the streets of Jerusalem. Perhaps the Rabbis will ban Psalm 110 next. Messianic Jews suffer much in Israel.

Reprobate Hebrews probably twisted the truth early in their history cementing the notion of a unitarian God into their traditions. Perhaps it was man’s attempt to protect the true God from the idolatry of surrounding nations. When flesh intervenes to protect our Holy God by shoehorning Scripture it only brings trouble. Sarah urging Abraham to prematurely fulfil God’s promise of a son in their old age did untold damage. Abraham fathered Ishmael his biggest mistake whose descendants became Israel’s chief enemy.

Fleshly motives to protect God will only earn God’s displeasure. Uzza, the Levitical priest, discovered that when the Lord smote him. He dared to steady the Ark of the Covenant by touching it when the cows stumbled (1Chronicles 13:9). We should never protect the Word by forcing Christianity to swallow a false paradigm based on scientific evidence even if it does prove an ambiguous “Young Earth”. Good intentions can lead to sin.

“Truly, then, God overlooking the times of ignorance, now He strictly commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30).

“Because you say, I am rich and increased with goods and have need of nothing, and do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I counsel you to buy from Me gold purified by fire, so that you may be rich; and white clothing, so that you may be clothed, and so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear. And anoint your eyes with eye salve, so that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten; therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also overcame and have sat down with My Father in His throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches” (Revelation 3:17-22)
